Oburu Oginga Painfully Remembers When He Received News Of Raila Odinga’s Death: “Nusra Let Me Go”

Among the most hurt was his brother and Siaya County senator, Oburu Oginga, who has now opened up about the pain he went through when he received the shocking news.

How did Oburu Oginga receive the news of Raila’s death?

Speaking to NTVOburu revealed that he had spoken to Raila on the phone just a few hours before his death.

From their last conversation, Oburu said he could tell that Raila was in good spirits, which made the news of his sudden death all the more surprising.

During their long conversation, the brothers had planned to meet in Dubai and spend a few days together.

“I didn’t expect him to go so suddenly. I thought he would at least be very ill, and like other people, you would expect to see some signs that his life is about to end,” he said.

On the morning of October 15, Oburu was preparing for a golf game in town Poisonous he received a call from his sister, Wenwa.

He informed him that their other sister, Ruth, who was with Raila in India, said that Raila had fainted and was in critical condition.

“I felt I almost fainted because it was a very shocking thing. How did he faint and now he is in the ICU being put on machines to help him breathe?” Oburu narrated.

Due to the language problem between Raila’s family in India and the doctors who were treating him, Oburu was advised to call his friend an Indian doctor to get the correct information.

The doctor confirmed that Raila was in a critical condition but assured him that the doctors were making every effort to save him.

After a few minutes, Wenwa called again saying that Ruth had called while crying and unable to explain what happened.

Then Oburu decided to call Ruth directly.

“I called Ruth, and before I could ask anything, she just explained, ‘We lost her.’ Then I called Winnie, and she said, ‘Uncle, we have lost the war.’ That’s when I felt I almost fainted, but I told myself that I must be strong as the only heir and the head of the family, because if I fainted too, what would happen to the others? I decided to try to persevere even if I was completely discouraged. We have not recovered yet,” said Oburu.

How was Raila’s relationship with Oburu?

During the same interview, Oburu reflected on his close relationship with his late brother.

He revealed that whenever Raila received many gifts, such as clothes or shoes, he liked to share them with him because they were the same size.

He also recalled that before his death, they had discussed how to manage the Jaramogi family property to avoid future family conflicts.
