Leader of the Democratic Party for the People (DCP) Rigathi Gachagua has re-emerged in the public eye after almost three weeks of silence following the death of former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Raila died on October 15 while receiving treatment in India due to a heart attack.
Gachagua, who was absent from public events during the mourning period, offered condolences only through his social media.
Sources close to the former vice president cited security concerns, claiming that there were plans to attack him if he visited the bereaved family or attended a funeral.
However, on Saturday, November 1, Gachagua made a public appearance at the funeral of six family members who died tragically when their car plunged into a river in Kariara village, Murang’a county.

Did Gachagua warn Ruto against insults?
During the emotional ceremony, Gachagua took the opportunity to criticize the President William Rutoaccusing him of disrespecting Mt Kenya leaders and their voters.
Gachagua condemned Ruto’s alleged remarks describing Mount Kenya leaders as people without dirty hearts, calling them very rude and unjust.
He reminded the president that the region fully supported his ambition during the 2022 elections and deserved respect, not ridicule.
“You should know that we are not impure at heart. You are the one who impure our hearts. And to prove that our hearts are now truly impure, you will see in August 2027,” Gachagua announced, warning of political consequences.
He further expressed his disappointment with local leaders who continue to cheer for Ruto despite his claims of insulting the community.

Why did Gacahagua accuse Ruto’s government?
Gachagua also accused the president of misusing public funds and failing to lead, claiming that many Kenyans are not satisfied with the current administration.

In the most damning accusation, the DCP boss claimed that Ruto had destroyed laws meant to curb drug abuse, leading to an increase in drug abuse in the area.
“You said alcohol should come back here to kill our children because you hate us. We are very sad because the sword we gave you as a society is now being used to harm us,” he complained.
Gachagua’s continued criticism of the government raises questions of unity among the leaders of Mt. Kenya in DCP parties and UDA.
Can Rigathi Gachagua beat Ruto in the 2027 election?
At the same time, Ruto made remarks indicating that no political opponent remains strong following the death of the ODM leader.
Ruto said Raila was the only opponent he considered a real opponent in the next election. He dismissed the current opposition leaders, claiming they have no credible agenda to change Kenya.
The President also questioned their ability to manage important sectors such as health without a clear plan.
