This comes a few days after the funeral of the former prime minister Raila Odingawho died while receiving treatment at Devamatha Hospital in India.
Will Oburu Oginga run for president?
Speaking to NTV on Tuesday, October 28, ODM members claimed that they would like their party to field Oburu Odinga as its presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
They further urged other ODM members to support Oburu as he takes over the party.
“Dr. Oburu Oginga is the presidential candidate of ODM and Union of Azimio. Union of Azimio is still ongoing and has not been officially dissolved. However, we are expected to cooperate with other parties, but they should know that we have a presidential candidate,” Josphat Muroko, a member of ODM, said.
They said that they gained strength when they saw Cameroon re-electing their president for an eighth term. Paul Biya is the oldest president in the world, at 92 years old.

They argued that at the age of 81, Oburu is still young and has good qualities to run for the presidency.
“Dr. Oburu is still young, he is only 81 years old. He is General Z and a youth leader,” Muroko said sarcastically.
Led by Jack Munoru, the ODM chairman for Meru region, members said that the party is currently committed to a wider government but is expected to announce its decision before the elections.
“The ODM party will continue to be strengthened. We are still part of the broader government. We will make another decision when the next election is near,” Munoru said.
“ODM is the largest and most powerful party in North of the Sahara and South of the Limpopo River. The father is gone, but the lieutenants remain. That is why we say, the king is dead, but the crown lives to ensure that the mission of the Father is fulfilled,” Nerea Okobo, deputy speaker of the County Assembly Poisonous.
They concluded by saying that they will continue Raila’s spirit of fighting for justice in the country and across Africa.
Who can compete for the presidency in ODM?
This came a few days after the Member of Parliament for Alego Usoga, Sam Atandi, claimed that the ODM party is not ready to nominate a presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Atandi said that no one in the party has the political power to deal with Ruto in the highly anticipated election.
Atandi further ignored claims made by some ODM members that Raila did not support Ruto
