The secretary general of the Kenya Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists Association (KMPDU), Davji Atellah, is mourning the death of his father, Moses Atellah Abonyo, who died on Sunday evening.

Atellah’s father died at 5pm while receiving treatment at Gendia Kendu Adventist Hospital in Kendu Bay, Homa Bay county.

Minister of Health Aden Duale he joined other leaders to send condolences, while the national chairman of KMPDU Abidan Mwachi said the late Mzee Atellah had been ill for a long time but had recently shown signs of recovery.

Davji Atellah’s tribute to his father

In an emotional interview with TUKO.co.ke, Atellah described her father’s death as sudden and painful.

“It is with a very broken heart that I share the death of my beloved father, Moses Atellah Abonyo, at the age of 77. Although he was dealing with chronic health problems, his death was sudden and very surprising. We had spoken to him the day before,” he said.

He explained that when his father’s health deteriorated, they rushed him to Gendia Kendu Bay Hospital, but he died quickly and peacefully.

“My father was truly one of a kind. He was my confidant, the person I turned to for guidance in every season of my life. He had an uncanny ability to see straight to the heart of anything, imparting wisdom with humor, warmth, and clarity,” he added.

The KMPDU boss said his father’s wisdom, calm spirit, and unconditional support helped shape him into who he is today, describing him as a pillar of strength whose influence will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

“His presence shaped the person I am today, and his spirit will continue to live on in all of us who were blessed to love him,” he said.

KMPDU unite to mourn the death of Atellah’s father

In his message to his colleagues, Mwachi urged the members of KMPDU to stand with their general secretary at this sad time.

“Pray for strength and stability for the secretary general and his family at this difficult time,” he said, noting that losing a father often brings great emotional changes within the family.

Atellah and her family expressed gratitude for the many messages of love, comfort, and support from friends, colleagues, and Kenyans across the country.

“My family and I are very grateful. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.

How was Kiambu’s medical training expert found dead?

In a related incident previously reported by TUKO.co.ke, KMPDU mourned the death of Francis Njuki, a trainee doctor at the Thika Level 5 in Kiambu county.

Atellah said Njuki had worked for almost four months without pay, blaming the government for failing to fulfill its agreement with the trainee doctors.
