On October 25, the Council of Governors (CoG), comprising the present county heads, visited the compound to pay their respects.

Raila Odinga Jr. what did he tell Kenyans?

Raila Junior, who was recently appointed head of the family after the death of his father, received them.

Speaking at the memorial, he noted that Kang’o Ka Jaramogi was open to all Kenyans, regardless of background, race, or political party.

“I was just a family member here, but now I stand as one of the elders. When we mourn, we welcome everyone; this house is open to all who want to honor Raila,” he said.

His inclusive message differed from the sentiments of some ODM party officials who earlier announced that the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his associates were not welcome in Bondo.

Why did ODM officials say Gachagua is not allowed to enter Bondo

On October 22, during a press conference in Kisumu attended by the national chairman of ODM and the governor of Homa Bay Gladys Wangathe officials said that Gachagua should not step on Bondo to respect Raila.

Their stance was a response to the remarks made by Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga, who appeared to celebrate Raila’s death, calling it a divine blessing for the Mount Kenya region.

ODM leaders accused Kahiga of speaking with Gachagua’s blessing, citing their close political ties. Therefore, they called Gachagua an unworthy person in Bondo.

Kahiga’s comments led to widespread condemnation, leading to his removal from the leadership of the Council of Governors, where he was the vice-chairman.

Did Gachagua support Mutahi Kahiga’s statement?

The Gachagua political group also distanced itself from Kahiga’s statements, claiming that they did not reflect their views.

Kahiga had claimed that the death of Raila would shift the government’s attention and resources from Nyanza and Western Kenya to Mount Kenya, claiming that Raila had influenced national policy due to his closeness to President William Ruto.

In a joint statement, the opposition led by Gachagua noted that the Nyeri governor’s remarks had the stench of hate speech, for which action should be taken.

They urged Ruto to take action against Kahiga, because he is a member of the UDA party.
