ODM youths call on Babu Owino to take over the leadership of the party, they want him to inherit Raila Odinga’s purses

  • Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth said Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is the most suitable candidate to take over the leadership of the party
  • They listed several reasons to support Babu, asserting their belief that he would lead the party in the right direction
  • This comes after the members of Luo Nyanza approved the decision to ask Siaya senator Oburu Oginga to replace the party

The youth of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are now pleading with the members of the party to give the youth a chance to lead.

This comes a few days after the former prime minister, who was also the leader of the ODM party, died while being treated at the Devamatha Hospital in India.

Can Babu Owino succeed Raila Odinga?

Speaking to NTV on Friday, October 24, the youth supported the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, Grandfather Owinociting him as the best candidate to take over the leadership of the party.

They said that the move would help the party continue with the development policies initiated by the late political veteran.

“As young people across the country, anywhere or within the nation, we have only one leader who has been standing with us, who is the Honorable Member of Parliament, who is the honorable Babu Owino,” one member said.

“Like the youth and those who demand leadership for change. Those who demand leadership for change and good governance know that Babu Owino is the right leader to take that course,” another member said.

ODM youth mourn Raila

They also paid heartfelt tributes to the long-serving opposition leader in the country, calling him Afrikaans-Muungano a champion of democracy.

“When you talk about African Union, when we talk about democracy, when we talk about devolution, you cannot mention the name without Raila,” they said.

The young people also used the opportunity to express their condolences to the family and friends of the late prime minister.

“To Raila’s family, we really want to comfort them in this difficult time. We want to remind them that God is in control,” they added.

Was Oburu Oginga approved as ODM leader?

On the other hand, ODM members from PoisonousSiaya, Migori and Homa Bay accepted Raila’s brother, Siaya senator Oburu Oginga, as the party’s interim leader.

They said that Oburu was the best candidate to succeed the late political leader Raila, citing his experience as the main reason for his ability to lead the party.

Before the approval, Oburu had been appointed as acting leader of the party until the supreme leader was elected.

The decision was made on October 16 by the party leadership.

Later, the announcement was made by Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, who is the deputy leader of the ODM party.

Addressing mourners at Nyayo Stadium during Raila’s funeral, Oburu accepted the responsibility that had been placed on his shoulders.

He further promised to do his best to follow in his younger brother’s shoes and lead the party.
