Kisumu women’s representative, Ruth Odinga, has strongly warned ODM politicians who, for many years, have been relying on the political influence of her late brother Raila Odinga to get their seats.

Speaking there Bondo On Friday, October 24, Ruth told party leaders to prepare for a new era of responsibility and independence under the leadership of Siaya senator Oburu Oginga.
The event, held during heavy rains, marked one of the most symbolic meetings in the ODM heartland since the death of the former prime minister.
Despite the rain, the crowd remained strong, chanting pro-ODM slogans and vowing to defend the party’s legacy.
Party members from across Nyanza gathered to endorse Oburu as acting leader of the Orange Democratic Movement as the party restructures following Raila’s death.
For many, the meeting marked mourning and renewal, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the region’s political journey.
Ruth’s message was clear, saying that the days when ODM candidates would rely on Raila’s endorsement to ensure victory are over.
He said the time has come for leaders to connect directly with voters, gain their support, and prove their value through tangible service delivery.
“I am telling you that under Oburu Odinga, we will put the party on the right path. He is a very honest person. You will not go to him and say, “Oburu Odinga, hold my hand.” He will not hold your hand. Go and ask the voters for your vote,” Ruth told the cheering crowd.

Ruth’s remarks come at an important time for ODM, a party that has long been characterized by Raila’s strong presence and unparalleled grassroots leadership.
His death has not only left a vacuum in national politics but has also caused uncertainty within the ranks of ODM, especially Nyanza.

He described his elder brother as an honest and firm person who would not distort the values of the party to focus on personal interests.
The MP said that Oburu was the right person to lead the party forward, revealing that he was Raila’s most trusted advisor.
“He is a very honest person, and if the party goes astray, he will fix it. No one should say that he is not strong. He is very strong and he is the one who Raila would listen to more than anyone else. Even if I wanted anything from Raila, I would go through Oburu,” he added.
