In the ceremony, his grandmother also graced the occasion, and shaved him first to signify that he was starting something new.
He had his first shave with a razor before the barber took and took care of Junior’s hair.
What was the handover ceremony to Raila Junior?
According to the Jaluo culture, when a father dies, family members must shave their hair after four days.
During the ceremony, he was given a spear and a shield, to signify the new role he now takes in his father’s house.
His wife stood beside him as he sat on the ‘throne’ with his uncle, Senator Oburu Oginga and other elders watching closely.
After the official installation, he took the spear and aimed it in the air several times while the crowd cheered him.
A bull was also brought before him, and he looked at it before he and his relatives and friends walked him to his father’s grave at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi. This is known as Tero Buru by the Luo culture.
Furthermore, Oburu maintained that despite being the new head of the family in Raila’s home, he will still be subordinate to him in the extended Oginga family.
