The airline Kenya Airways transported the former TV journalist’s body from Mombasa to Nairobi with the help of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, who paid for the trip and other additional expenses.
What happened to Kimani Mbugua?
The body is now at the Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home on the Road Thikawhere you are being prepared for burial.
Sonko, in an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, confirmed the news, saying that he was there for Kimani through his personal struggles and is still determined to make sure he gives a proper farewell.
“I have walked with Kimani for a long time, and even in his death, I will still walk with him to make sure he receives the send-off he deserves. It is sad that whatever happened, happened,” said Sonko.
He also said that his Sonko Rescue Team will cover the funeral and related expenses while the family makes final funeral arrangements.

Kimani died while receiving treatment at a rehabilitation center in Mombasa.
Sonko had kept him there for treatment following a recent relapse. The former journalist had mental health problems for some time.
