Why did Raila need a room in Oparanya’s house?
The tranquil property is surrounded by beautiful gardens, elegant decorations, and luxury furniture. But one particular room stole the show and melted the hearts of many Kenyans online.

He revealed that his house has a room reserved for the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement, Raila Odinga.
“When he visits, this is where he sits,” Oparanya explained as he opened the door to reveal an elaborately decorated room dominated by ODM’s orange branding.
The bed and the duvet on the bed clearly showed loyalty to the party leader. According to Oparanya, the room remains untouched no matter how full the house is.
“Even if it takes a year before he visits, no one else sleeps here,” he said proudly, adding that the room was frequently used during campaign seasons when Raila visited Western Kenya to woo voters.

Kenyans are surprised by Raila’s room in Oparanya’s house
Oparanya added that Raila knew he had a room and could go home even if he wasn’t home, a statement that emphasized not just friendship, but a deep relationship of political and personal respect that lasted for years.
“Luhyas loved Baba very much. He is of royal blood here in the West. We have lost a lot. It is sad for many. Baba lives. Omwami Oparanya, you have done well for your people especially and the Luhyas in general,” wrote TikTok user @chesadennis254.
Another user, @nkwazigatsha, admired the governor’s taste, saying,
“Money is made in Kenya and furniture is made abroad. I love the beauty of the house.”
Others celebrated Oparanya’s steadfastness in friendship and politics

Oparanya’s touching act besides fueling a conversation about political loyalty also gave Kenyans a rare glimpse into the human side of their leaders where respect, friendship, and symbolism transcend politics.

Raila to be mourned for 40 days
At the same time, the former deputy minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, David Osiany, revealed that the period of mourning for Raila Odinga will last for 40 days.
This, in principle, will go beyond the seven days announced by the President William Rutobased on Luo culture.
Osiany, a close ally of Raila, noted that Raila’s demand for a 72-hour funeral was a deliberate decision as the country would be brought to a standstill, given his national influence.
