Mike Sonko, the former governor of Nairobi, has promised to help the families of Kenyans who were shot while viewing the body of Raila Odinga in Kasarani field.

Due to the unexpected turnout, the public viewing, scheduled to take place inside Parliament, was moved to the Moi International Sports Centre, Nairobi, Kasarani.
When a large crowd broke through the gate, police responded by firing tear gas and bullets, causing chaos as mourners ran for the exits. At least three people died in the accident.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 21, Sonko called for justice for the victims, while accusing the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) of remaining silent.
“It was very bad, they were innocent mourners, and they were going there to stand with Dad and his family. It was not fair. These families need justice, because what happened is unacceptable. Whoever gave the order for the mourners to be shot, we want action to be taken. We have not heard from IPOA – you should go fast.”
Sonko noted that he would help the families to find a legal solution if the officers were not taken any action.
“We have a strong team of lawyers, and I will hire lawyers on their behalf. Nobody is here to stand with them.”
The politician further promised to help families bury their loved ones.
“We will provide caskets, an open mortuary fee, and provide transportation to any part of the country where they are taking the bodies.”
Sonko said that after the burial, he will follow up on the case.

Shared on Friday, October 17, the photo featured a smiling Raila in orange and black, posted on the driver’s window, with the words “The Real Otero.”
Many Kenyans applauded the gesture, while others suggested it three that deserved the title of Kenya One, celebrating the most famous matatu in Nairobi.
