Nairobi – Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop of the Diocese of Bondo David Hellington Kodia has been trending following his powerful sermon during the national funeral of ODM leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

During Raila’s national funeral at Nyayo grounds on Friday, October 17, Kobia delivered a powerful sermon with his message aimed at the political class.
How did David Kodia preach in Nyayo Stadium?
In his sermon which was praised by many Kenyans, the bishop denounced political leaders who have specialized in the art of giving gifts for personal gain.

He called on Kenyan politicians to borrow from Raila’s style of people-centred leadership, built on influence rather than coercion or bribery.
“Today we have politicians with very bad behavior who have taught people the power of handouts, wherever you are you have to give up money, and alas those who drive big cars are in trouble. Whenever you are seen only for money, what can you be? Raila never used the power of money to scare people or lure his followers,” said Kodiamon.
After a strong sermon, Kenyans have been wondering who this man of God is who is not afraid even of those in power.
Who is David Kodia?
According to his LinkedIn profile, Bishop Kodia says he is driven by the need to fight for justice for all people.
“It is my hope and joy to participate in the fight for justice for all. This important role always pushes me to do the things I do, including stepping in other people’s shoes. Fighting for justice is a greater calling, and I want to pray that everyone shares this passion with me,” Kodia said on his LinkedIn profile.
Details about David Kodia’s education
Kodia attended his early studies at Mayieka Primary School there Poisonous before proceeding to Mbita High School in Homa Bay for secondary education.
He attended Bishop Okullu College, where he graduated in 1988, before moving on to Charles University in Prague, where he pursued a Master of Theology between 1990 and 1994.
In 2008, Bishop Kodia joined Northwestern Christian University, Florida, where he graduated with a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Christian Theology in 2010.
David Kodia’s work experience
Kodia was appointed as the head of St. Philips Theological College, Maseno, from 1996 to 1998, then Bishop Okullu College, Great Lakes University, Kisumu, from 2002 to 2016.
He was later appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Kisumu Great Lakes University until 2017, when he was elected as the second bishop of Bondo diocese.

Kodia was consecrated as Bishop of the Anglican Church Diocese of Bondo on June 4, 2017, replacing the retired bishop, Right. Pastor Johannes Otieno Angela.
Currently, he also serves as the chairman of the board of management at Bishop Okullu College.
The archbishop has written several books, including Mission to the Voiceless, Poverty in Grace, Poverty in Disgrace, Reigns of Hope, and many other articles.
David Kodia’s travels abroad
According to the website of the ACK church in Bondo, Kodia has made several foreign trips, including one he traveled in March 2022.
During his sabbatical leave in 2022, Kodia went USA rest and do other activities outside the Diocese.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Bishop to interact with individuals, groups, partners and create new links that will give way to a strengthened mission between parties. He was also able to minister to various congregations in the provinces during his stay.

Meanwhile, a video that went viral online showed the priest complaining that law enforcement officers had been sent to his residence at the behest of a powerful politician named Farouk.

The footage sparked speculation linking the alleged police visit to the bishop’s bold remarks at a state funeral in Nyayo grounds, implying that it was a political vendetta.
However, an investigation by TUKO.co.ke revealed that the video was not as recent as it was being taken online.
