Winnie Odinga he wanted his late father, Raila Odinga, to die when he had already enjoyed his life.

His death caused great grief in Kenya, with some Kenyans sharing videos of Raila before his sudden death.

A video of Winnie Odinga, the youngest child of the former prime minister, showing her only request to her father, has surfaced.

What is Winnie Odinga’s dream about Raila?

During an earlier interview with HOT 96, Winnie was asked if she would like to see her father run for president in the expected 2027 General Election.

Winnie said that she has seen her father focus on his political career for many years and the only thing she wanted was to see her father enjoy life.

“As a daughter, I would like to see her enjoy her life. I would like to see her do whatever she wants, go to the beach, play with her grandchildren and do whatever she wants in her old age,” said Winnie.

However, he insisted that if running for the presidency would make Raila happy, then he would support it.

He added that he always cared about his father because his father always did things that some people were not satisfied with.

“I’ve always cared for her. It’s just life. You know like army wives,” he said.

How Winnie was affected following her father’s failure

The Member of Parliament of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) added how his father’s failure in the presidential race despite the support of the former President Uhuru Kenyatta attracted his attention.

“It’s hard, because you give everything but … because Raila Odinga is still alive, millions of people are rooting for him. It’s hard to ignore them. How can you let them down? To cope, I play video games, go talk to someone, life has to go on,” said Winnie.

When did Raila run for president?

Raila contested for the presidency for the first time in 1997 as a candidate of the National Development Party (NDP).

He lost after coming third behind the former President Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.

After the election, he formed an alliance with the Kenya African National Union (KANU), which was the ruling party at the time, and served as Minister of Energy.

Raila later ran for the presidency in 2007, where he lost and the seat was taken by Mwai Kibaki.

However, he was given the chance to become Prime Minister, working with Kibaki following the post-election violence.

He did not give up hope of becoming the president of the country, he ran for the presidency in 2013, 2017, and 2022.

In all his efforts, he came close to winning the presidency but that did not happen.

Where is Raila buried?

The video surfaced a few days after Raila was buried in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.

The ODM party leader was given a dignified burial, which was attended by dignitaries from the country, including President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Vice President Kithur KindikiCouncil Ministers, among others.

Raila’s funeral was held according to his last wish, which was to be buried 72 hours after his death.
