Kimani Mbugua’s father, Dedan Kimathi, has spoken about the death of his son and his last words before he died.

The 29-year-old man died on Tuesday night, October 14, at a rehabilitation center in Mombasa where he was being treated.
What did Kimani Mbugua say before he died?
In an interview with journalists, Kimathi said that his son said he had decided to die because he did not want to be a burden to anyone anymore.
“He said that ‘…I have been a burden to you and I don’t want to continue to be a burden again,'” Kimathi said.

Kimathi also revealed the message his son left before he died.
“He mentioned that ‘I have chosen to rest in God’s hands,'” he added.
The family has said it has graciously accepted the painful reality of the death and has ruled out the possibility of foul play.
Kimani Mbugua’s family accepts his death
Kimathi said investigations carried out by the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and videos from the station confirmed how Mbugua died.
“We do not blame anyone. The DCI came and took the body. We as a family are not complaining to the station because there is a video showing how he died, and we have accepted it. We have said that since he has chosen to rest, who are we to say that he should not rest?” Kimathi said.

Mbugua’s death was made public on Wednesday afternoon, although reports said he died on Tuesday night.
How much money does the Kimani Mbugua family need for a funeral?
As previously reported, Kimathi has asked Kenyans for financial support to give their son a dignified burial.
According to his father, Dedan Kimathi, the family expects to collect KSh 217,600 to pay for the funeral, including the funeral bill and funeral preparations.
How Mike Sonko helped Kimani Mbugua
Kimani’s journey took a rocky turn a few years ago when he publicly admitted that he was struggling with mental illness and drug addiction.
After reaching a dire situation, he got help from sympathetic Kenyans, including the former governor of Nairobi Mike Sonkowho showed up to help him get into a correctional facility.

However, the new hope that seemed to start for the journalist turned into a tragedy after he was found dead in a correctional facility.
Sonko painfully confirmed the news of Kimani’s death through an emotional post on social media, saying that Kimani died at the Mombasa Women Empowerment Mental Rescue Centre.
While announcing the news, Sonko shared a video of Kimani singing with great emotion while at the institute.
