When his body landed in Kisumu, people were ready to see him for the last time.
Why was Raila flown to Bondo from Kisumu?
Thousands of people filled the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium to pay their last respects to Baba, as they fondly called him.
Interior Ministry Secretary, Raymond Omollo, said the body was supposed to be transported by car to his home in Bondo, but plans changed after the government decided to use air transport.
He said the change was reached after consultation between the Central National Funeral Committee and Odinga’s family as a whole.
Omollo explained that the decision was based on reasons of time, security, and travel coordination, although many people were still traveling to Kisumu to see Raila’s body.
The government expected that more people would turn out along the Kisumu-Bondo road if the caravan passed through that road.
Did Rosemary pray for Raila Odinga?
When the body arrived in Bondo, his family was the first to see it, led by Mama Ida Odinga and Rosemary.
Ida wore a black dress and matching sunglasses. His daughter, Rosemary, was by his side.
He hugged his daughter as they looked at the body of the former prime minister in the coffin.
After finishing, Ida made the sign of the Catholic cross by touching her forehead and then her chest.
Then Ida motioned to her daughter as if they wished to depart, and Rosemary put her hands together in prayer.
He was seen praying beside his father’s coffin while his mother helped him. Ida also joined him in those prayers.
Rosemary ended her prayer by making the sign of the cross before her uncle continued with the honors.
