Homa Bay – The fire that broke out at midnight in the house of Rangwe Member of Parliament Lilian Gogo has left damage estimated at millions of reais.

The fire that broke out in the Member of Parliament’s residence in East Gem Ward, burned almost all the property while Gogo was away Poisonous.

Police have since launched an investigation into what they suspect may have been an act of deliberate arson.

Rangwe Police Commander Magdaline Chebet confirmed the incident and dismissed reports that the cause of the fire was not electricity.

He explained that the area had electricity at the time of the incident.

“The area where the house is located had a power cut when the fire broke out,” he said.

Chebet said that officials responded quickly after receiving distress calls from residents, but when they arrived, the fire had already consumed the main house.

The police chief pointed out that the residents who responded to the cry for help could not help because the compound was closed.

“We found the neighbors gathered at the scene. However, they could not enter the compound because the gate was closed,” he said.

It is reported that the officers broke the gate while trying to put out the fire, drawing water from the well in the compound.

What is Lilian Gogo’s request?

Despite their efforts, only a few kitchen items were saved while the rest of the property, including furniture, electronics, and personal items, was destroyed and reduced to ashes.

The MP revealed that he was in Kisumu when he received a call that his country house was on fire.

He explained that he had traveled for the ongoing funeral of the former prime minister Raila Odinga.

“I was in Kisumu because of the ongoing plans for Raila Odinga’s funeral. I am also confused about what happened,” the MP said.

The Member of Parliament has called on the police to act quickly and bring those responsible for the barbaric act to justice.

Police have not yet identified any suspects, but investigators are looking into possible motives, including political or personal grievances.

Chebet also revealed that Gogo recently requested additional police protection, saying that the request was being reviewed when the house was set on fire.

“The MP has had a male bodyguard but he had asked his office to provide him with a female police officer as well. We were still considering his request when the fire incident happened,” Chebet said.

The victims were identified as Ernest Ombima, 36, his wife Flora Ambani, 33, and their three children: nine-year-old Getrude Amisi, three-year-old Silas Omboko and infant Stephen Ayimbo.

The family had just moved from Esirulo village in Emuhaya, Vihiga county, to Nairobi in search of better opportunities.
