Raila Odinga: Viewing of ODM Leader’s Body Moved to Kasarani

Nairobi – Public activities to view the body of the former leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga you have been moved from the Houses of Parliament to Kasarani Stadium.

The decisions came after a large crowd turned out to receive the body of the former prime minister from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Why was Raila’s mortuary changed?

Thousands of Kenyans also arrived at the Parliament Building before the arrival of Raila’s body.

In a statement on Thursday, October 14, the ODM party advised Kenyans who had already lined up in Parliament to head to the Moi International Sports Stadium, Kasarani.

“Due to the increase in the number of mourners, the viewing of Raila Amollo Odinga’s body has been moved from the Parliament buildings to the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani. Citizens are advised to go to Kasarani where they will have enough space and time to view the body,” ODM said.

Following the latest announcement, his procession to the Lee Mausoleum before the public viewing has also been cancelled.

In the CBD, hundreds of mourners refused to disperse from Parliament buildings, claiming they were being tricked into moving to Kasarani to prevent them from viewing Raila’s body.

How Oburu Oginda treated mourners on Mombasa Road

Earlier, chaos broke out as hundreds of mourners took to the streets to accompany the body of the late politician to Lee Funeral Home.

Mombasa Road was flooded with mourners, which caused heavy traffic and reduced the procession.

While this was going on, Raila’s brother, Oburu Oginga, climbed on top of one of the vehicles in the procession, begging the mourners to allow the procession to move forward.

He even used the public address system and spoke to the crowd in Dholuo, but his appeals were drowned out by chants and shouts.

Oburu appealed to the crowd to allow the procession to reach Lee Funeral Home as originally planned by the organisers.
