The National Airports Authority (KAA) has announced the temporary closure of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

KAA noted that the closure will begin on Thursday, October 16, at 10:26 am to 12:26 pm on the same date.
In a statement released on its social media pages, the government agency explained that the closure will ensure the safety and security of passengers following the arrival of the body of the late former prime minister. Raila Odinga.
“This important step is to facilitate an enhanced security review operation following the arrival of the remains of the late Raila Odinga, former prime minister of Kenya. The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and all airport users is our highest priority, and this step is part of our unwavering commitment to maintain the highest levels of security,” KAA said.
KAA advised passengers with scheduled flights during that period to contact their airlines directly for the latest information on flight conditions and possible adjustments to their travel schedules.
It apologized to customers for the inconvenience.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this important operation may cause and thank the public for their patience and cooperation,” acting executive director of KAA Mohamud Gedi said.

The national airline expressed its sadness at Raila’s death in a condolence letter issued by Allan Kilavuka, the managing director and CEO of Kenya Airways Group.
KQ highlighted its important role in promoting Kenya’s development and said that the aviation industry can spur economic reforms.
The late ODM leader was praised by Kilavuka as a strong supporter of Kenya Airways, and said that his belief that aviation can bring the continent together and spur prosperity will always be an inspiration.
