The political stalwart met his death on Wednesday, October 15, in India, where he had been receiving treatment for about a week.

The politician is said to have suffered a heart attack early Wednesday morning, while he was walking in the morning at the medical center.

Return of Raila’s body

On Wednesday night, the Kenyan delegation led by the Prime Minister Stay Mudavadi and Raila’s elder brother, Oburu Oginga, arrived in India to receive his remains.

A heartbreaking video showed his coffin draped in the Kenyan flag, ready to be brought home for a national funeral that will take place in the next three days.

The video was shared on Facebook by Kenya Airways.

“KQ203 is ready to bring home the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, a beloved leader. Our thoughts are with the nation,” the clip quoted.

KQ also revealed that the plane carrying Raila’s body home is being followed by many Kenyans who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of his remains.

According to the Prime Minister, the KQ flight is scheduled to land at 9.30 am, Thursday, October 16.

“We have secured his body, and preparations have been completed for his return home. The plane carrying the body of this great Kenyan child is scheduled to land at JKIA at 9:30 am on Thursday, where he will be received by HE President William Samoei Ruto and the nation he loved so much,” he said.
