Sister Caroline Kanjiru was brought before the court on Tuesday, October 14, following her arrest was linked to an incident reported at Nkubu police station.

What did the investigators say about Kanjiru’s ban?

Investigators revealed that although Kanjiru claimed Karimi died on his way to Nkubu Hospital, the deceased was found with bruises on his hands and feet, something that sparked suspicion of playing dirty.

The prosecution’s request for a ban said that the suspect is facing a public hatred, he can escape, and can interfere with the witnesses.

They also cited the need for him to be escorted to a state chemist in Nairobi for DNA analysis and intellectual investigation, noting that the corpse was not yet done.

Kanjiru’s lawyer opposed the request, saying that the suspect voluntarily surrendered, the area was unprecedented, and that the Catholic Church was ready to provide security.

He claimed that there were no basic reasons for the ban and that Kanjiru was ready to obey any court terms.

Why did the court order Kanjiru be banned?

In his decision, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the offense claimed and the possibility of public chaos due to the social status of the suspect.

“In my opinion, it is important for the safety and protection of the suspect and prevents public anger and retaliation, detaining him at this stage. And also enabling the suspect to be escorted by the state chemist for DNA investigation. The judge said.

The court ordered Kanjiru to be detained at the Meru police station awaiting further investigation.

“When the investigation is completed, either the suspect will be charged with the offense or will be released from detention, while the community’s anger will be calm,” he added.

Asumbi Sister is attacking her younger brother

A few weeks before the shocking murder of Meru’s sister, a shocking video appeared online showing a Sister of Franciscan Sisters of Asumbi (FSJ) attacking the younger sister in front of other staff.

Despite the complaints of the young sister, her eldest continued to beat her regularly as she whispered to her.

The head of the FSJ, Sister Mary Goretty Ochieng, criticized the incident as a “very sad” and confirmed that the organization launched internal procedures to address the issue.

Human Rights lawyer, Catherine Opondo, explained that the widespread clip showed an example of a concern within religious institutions, where cases of violence are often handled privately rather than being brought to the law.

Although he recognized the right of the Church to manage his spiritual and administrative issues, he emphasized that acts of violence must also be dealt with as matters of law and justice.
