The newspaper reports that the University of Kenyatta (KU) for the second consecutive year has won the University of Nairobi (UON) at the University of Times (The) University 2026, and emerged as the leading Kenya Institute in international indicators and impacts.
The rise of KU reflects strong performance in the metrics of international participation and social contributions, which measure the influence of universities on the international forum and in line with the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The university was placed in the 1001-1500 international band in the 2025 impact positions, listed between 201-300 in good health and well-being, zero hunger, and a decrease in inequality.
These categories evaluate contributions to community health, food security, and equality through research, teaching and joint venture.
The university receives 55,018 students in 13 campus and has expanded international cooperation and research, which has strengthened its international appearance.
On the contrary, the UON maintained the highest scores in professional cultural measures, recording 15.9 in teaching and 39.7 in research quality, and placed in the 601-800 international band for medical and health care, emphasizing its continued dominance in scholarships and special fields.
More than the two institutions, the University of Science and Technology of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga (Jooust) was closely listed, doing well in SDGs including no poverty, zero of hunger, and underwater life, focusing on its focus on agriculture, environmental sustainability, and the blue economy.
The University of Egerton was also highlighted at standards, within the band 1501+.
In general, 11 Kenyan universities were included in the list of world universities, which evaluate more than 2,000 institutions worldwide based on teaching, research, quotations, international perspectives, and industry participation, marking the increase in international existence and social impacts of Kenyan higher education institutions.
