The head of state proudly revealed that the country had witnessed 1.06 billion tree planting in the last two years.
During the Environment Day celebrations in the Nairobi Palace, Ruto He said the important step reflects the joint development in Kenya’s broad plan to grow 15 billion trees to 2032.
He acknowledged the challenges faced during the implementation of the campaign and noted that the shortage of seedlings had slowed the planting.
“I must congratulate the Kenyan people that over the past two years we have planted 1.06 billion trees and because we see that goal, we need to lift our game. Ruto said while cheering.
How does the Government deal with the shortage of seedlings?
The president explained that the government has developed several strategies to address the problem, including encouraging various institutions to produce seedlings to a large extent.
According to Ruto, the military, the National Youth Service (NYS), the Kenyan Prison Service, the Community Forest Organizations, and the private sector partners will now work together to ensure the supply of quality seedlings across the country.
He also announced that 5 % of the Parliamentary Development Treasury (CDF) would be directed to the production of seedlings to involve young people in each parliament.
He said the cooperation between parliamentarians, provincial development committees and youth groups would not only facilitate access to seedlings but would also generate revenue opportunities.
As part of the next phase of the national tree planting program, Ruto revealed that his administration would introduce 17 major blocks capable of producing two billion seedlings annually.
The same plan to be implemented through the cooperation between NYS With the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), you will witness 15,000 NYS workers being sent to revive 300 blocks across the country.
“The Kenyan Forest Service, in partnership with the national youth service, will encourage 15,000 NYS workers to revive 300 blocks in all our forests and set up 17 blocks to produce two billion seedlings annually for Kenyans to plant,” Said the President.

The seedlings, he added, would include a large number of fruit trees to enhance food security, create export opportunities, and support agricultural processing industries.
“The seedlings will include fruit trees to enhance not only the safety of our food, but also to create opportunities,” He said.
Ruto noted that the tree planting campaign will play an important role in reducing climate change, improving water sources and supporting agricultural production.
He pointed out that environmental restoration cannot be separated from food security and national well -being.
