The incident happened after the two joined opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the famous Bobi Wine, in a campaign in eastern Uganda.
According to witnesses, the activists were taken by four armed men traveling in a gray car at a Stabex oil station in Kireka, a suburb of Kampala.
Their phones were turned off a few minutes after they were taken by their kidnappers, and they are still unknown.
How were Njagi, Oyoo kidnapped?
Njagi, who is the chairman of the Free Kenya Movement, and Oyoo, the group’s secretary general, had traveled to Uganda earlier this week and his colleagues joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) campaigns before the 2026 presidential election.
Videos captured in Kamuli District showed Njagi on the stage with Bobi, listening attentively to times accompanying his caravan through Buyende and Kamuli.
A colleague who escaped the kidnapping, said the attack occurred suddenly while stopping to repair their car.
“At 3 o’clock at night there were some teenagers coming up with a car that looked gray, people came out with a gun. There were four and there was a woman who was sitting in front they took Bob and Oyoo,” He narrated.
The witness said he was temporarily detained but later released, revealing that they wanted him to get out of their escape car.
“They asked me to get out and shut my car, and that is how I was left. I don’t know where Bob is, or what they have been taken to the police station. The witness added.
The Free Kenyan Movement confirmed the incident in a statement issued by national coordinator Felix Wabu.
“I would like to confirm that our Chairman, Bob Njagi, and our Secretary -General, Nicholas Oyoo, were arrested today by unknown people at Stabex, Kireka, Kampala, and taken to an unknown place,” Warn he said.

Waves called on Ugandan officials to follow the law and take Njagi to court within the appointed period.
“If our colleagues have indeed been arrested, we want them to be brought to the Court of Justice within the next 24 hours, based on the principles of the justice and heart of the East African Union,” Watch added.
Civil society has condemned the kidnapping, with the Vocal Africa advocacy network calling on the activists to be released immediately and unconditionally.
“Reports confirm that activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo of Free Kenya Movement were kidnapped in Kampala as they attended the campaign of opposition leader Bobi Wine,” The group wrote on X.
Does freedom of expression decrease in East Africa?
The incident adds to the growing concern about the violence of activists in East African countries.
Four months ago, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi And Ugandan activist Agather Atuhaire were arrested in Tanzania and later thrown near the borders of their countries.
In Njagi, this is not a special case, since last year, he was kidnapped by people suspected of being Kenyan police officers in a chain amid an increase in hatred against government and The procession.
The activist was arrested for 32 days in what he referred to as an unhealthy and humiliating bond.
