Did Kenya succeed in its Haiti mission?

Ruto said the delegation, led by Kenya, which sent approximately 1,000 officers, helped restore a sense of stability at key stations that have been under the control of armed gangs.

He warned, however, that the departure without the handover coordinated for the new international security program would endanger the weak achievements achieved in recent months.

“When we went to Haiti, the airport and the port were invaded by gangs. Today, they are working,” Ruto said, pointing out that schools and hospitals that were closed because of gang control are now working again.

Ruto said that the presidential palace, previously under siege, is now a resident of the Haitian presidential council and the prime minister.

He added that the Police Headquarters in Port-Au-Prince, which was once taken by criminal groups, has been restored and recently witnessed graduation of more than 700 new officers.

The president referred to this progress as a major achievement, pointing to them as evidence that the commission had released results, contrary to critics claiming it had failed to restore security.
