Mburu, who died on November 20, 2024, at the age of 92, was buried on the night of September 17, 2025 by his stepchildren in a context that has created controversy.
The controversy was resolved on June 12, 2025, when Judge Gerhard Gitonga ordered Mburu to be buried in his father’s house in Gatanga, Murang’a County, near the grave of his first wife.
However, the decision was challenged in the Supreme Court and Njeri and his brothers – Geoffrey Nganga Mburu, Alice Wambui Mburu, Regina Muthoni Mburu, and Patrick Karanja Mburu – claimed that the judge had committed legal offenses.
Following the appeal, the Supreme Court overturned the judge’s decision, giving the deputy governor and his relatives the right to bury their father.
On the evening of September 17, Mburu’s body was taken from the Kijabe Mission Hospital and buried quietly at 12:00 pm cursed by the family of his first wife and their legal representatives.
Why was it wrong to bury Mburu Kinani in a secret way?
Advocates Danstan Omari And Stanley Kinyanjui denied the funeral claiming they were denied the opportunity to appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision.
They also claimed that Njeri had submitted a new document during an appeal that was not presented to the Magistrate’s Court, and despite their request for the documents to be dismissed, the judge refused.
“The court issued its decision on September 16, 2025, and continued immediately to overturn the judge’s decision without issuing permission to appeal,” Said Advocate Kinyanjui.
Omari strongly condemned the funeral environment and referred to it as an abuse of justice and humanity.
Announced plans to request the chief judge Martha Koome Provide practice instructions to ensure that funeral decisions are automatically completed to provide time to appeal.
“Mburu Kinani was the father of the deputy governor of Kiambu. For him to be buried in that way, as if he had no importance, it was a moral and legal thing,” Omari said.
The first family of Elder Mburu Kimani moved to court demanding that he chase the body of their late father a few days after his secret was buried.
