In a unique move, the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) on Monday launched the construction of projects worth Sh1.7 billion in Siaya County.
These include the introduction of a modern referral and expansion hospital and improvement of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya. The preparations were chaired by Defense Minister Soipan Tuya.
Tuya emphasized that these projects are in line with the “Kenyan first” agenda – focusing on the construction of infrastructure that directly benefits the public, especially in the health and youth development sectors.
The improvement of the hospital is planned to include a new barrier of patients, expanded medical care, and excellent capacity for specialized health care. In the field, the upgrade will see the expansion of the seats, roofs, the improvement of the pavement, and the excellent surrounding infrastructure.
Governor Orengo welcomed this development. He described the improvement of health infrastructure as “changing the game” to communities around Lake Victoria, which have often been forced to travel far to special medical care.
Along with the upgraded hospital, Orengo said, many would no longer need to travel outside the area. He also expressed hope that the upgraded stadium will not only develop the talents of the locals but will also put Siaya on the map as a sports hub.
“Seeing these projects start to make me realize that this government is genuinely interested in development,” Orengo said, adding that the president’s credibility was manifested in the fulfillment of the promises made to the people.
