The 26 -year -old man, from Kisumu She remembers how she met a girl during the mid -school holidays and eventually their meeting changed her life direction.

Why was Opiyo arrested?

In an interview with Itugi TV, Opiyo reported that he was in the third form when his dream he was working to fulfill.

What was intended to be a good time of adolescence turned into a bad dream when the girl’s parents opposed the relationship.

Before understanding the seriousness of their threats, the police raided his home, arrested him, and quickly sent him to the age assessment.

He later found himself in court facing charges he denied but was not able to fight for his independence.

His father Opiyo dies in prison

Opiyo was given a bail of Ksh 200,000 but his family could not collect the money, thus leaving him in the Kodiaga Maximum Prison block for more than a year.

The biggest blow in his life was his father when he died while he was still in prison.

“I cried every day thinking about how our family would live without my father and I was in jail,” he said, his voice with a heavy feeling.

His mother later admitted that she had never thought that the case would send the boy in prison.

How long was Opiyo sentenced to prison?

But by then, it was already late. Opiyo was sentenced to seven years in prison, and his youth was swallowed up by prison walls. Prison life was difficult at first.

“There was a day when I was told to carry a sack of corn and I fell with it,” he recalled, adding that the incident brought him a stroke.

However, hope was bright in the middle of the dark. Fellow prisoners in prison strengthened him, assuring him that freedom would come.

Football later became his way to run. He was welcomed into the prison team, where the friendship made him hope.

” When my captain was appointed Director, he showed me his prison clothes and told me to let him know every time I was stuck, ” Opiyo said, taking a picture of a little smile.

At present Opiyo is left with scars of lost time and broken dreams, but also for patience training.
