The protest followed Khalwale’s recent allegation against Kakamega County Women’s Representative, Elsie Muhanda.
According to Kakamega residents, most of them women, the Senator’s words were considered to disrespect the nobleman and other women in the county.
In protest on Kakamega streets, the residents who forced the senator to stop participating in what they claimed was the politics of division and hatred against women.
They also wanted to forgive the gentleman and his family.
“Khalwale, Engineer Muhanda did not appoint to take care of his wife (Elsie), so talking about someone’s marriage is not a matter of honor,” Said Jane Ruth Ayuma, one of the protesters.
He also urged the senator to take care of his duties as a representative of the people in the Senate rather than attack other women leaders. Such feelings were also indicated by some of the men who participated in the protest.
“Even if I have no teeth, I have said Khalwale to apologize. He has gone against the instructions of our tribe,” Said Musonye, an elder of the Isukha tribe.
The elder also advised other Kakamega leaders to appear and publicly criticize the former leader for his words against MP Muhanda.
Christine Juma, another protesters, said the Kenyan Constitution has given justice to every woman, and Khalwale should respect it by not talking about baseless words about women.
Khalwale allegedly attacked the women’s representative when he attended the Mumias public ceremony over the weekend.
Cause of misunderstanding between Khalwale and Elsie Muhanda
The attack is alleged to be the result of an authoritarian struggle between the senator and the Secretary of the Cooperative Ministry, Wycliffe oparanyaabout the 2027 governor’s race. Both Khalwale and Elsie are looking forward to the governor.
“We will not accept Oparanya at Elsie here; she has put her in a small house while her husband has suffered. She has destroyed Elsie’s marriage, something I will not accept,” Khalwale claimed. Both Oparanya and Elsie have not made public answers about the allegations.

Initially, TUKO.co.ke reported that the struggle for authority between Governor Fernandes Barasa and Lugari MP Prophet Nabwera were threatening to divide the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
