Mackenzie, who is facing charges along with 34 colleagues over the murder of Shakahola, claimed that harmful substances were placed on his cell and in his drinking water.

He said he discovered white residue in his water bottle and pieces of broken glass in his usual eating part, which created fear of a murder attempt.

However, Tewa pit prison chief Abdi Willy Adan dismissed Mackenzie’s allegations when he came before Chief Magistrate Nelly Chepchirchir in Tononoka’s Children’s Court.

He said Mackenzie and two of his colleagues, Elder Smart Deri and Steve of Mtampa, have been receiving their meals without problems, although some suspects refused food since Wednesday.

Adan issued a guest register showing the recent official visit to Mackenzie was on August 28, and said the final star strike was recorded in February.

Adan emphasized that to poison Mackenzie would not be possible due to severe security inspections, stating that prisoners are applauded each time they leave or re -enter their cells.

He also questioned how Mackenzie got the bottle water, as the station does not provide that water.

In connection with Mackenzie’s request to be transferred to Manyani Prison, Adan said he refused due to high security risk and additional costs to transport him for court.

Why did the court refuse to postpone the Mackenzie case?

During the hearing, prosecutors Ngina Mutua, Rubia Betty, Jam Yamina, JV Owiti, and Biasha Khalifa, opposed the defense’s request to postpone the case on allegations of food strike.

Rubia said the defendants were trying to delay the case, noting that six witnesses were present to testify.

The judge said that voluntary denying food was not a reason to suspend the case but ordered all the defendants to be given a full chance to meet their legal teams.
