This is after Kenyan police officer Koplo Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve was identified as an officer who died in a road accident during an operation in Pétion-Ville.

His death has put a shadow on Kenya’s third team in the mission, which has been supporting security efforts in the Caribbean nation.

Who was Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve?

Born on March 8, 1984, in Machakos County, Nzuve joined the National Police Service in 2005.

He served in several regions across Kenya, including Narok and Baringo counties, and was part of the rapid distribution unit (RDU).

His experience and service record led him to be sent to Haiti while Kenya extends its role in the international peace and security missions.

On Monday, September 1, forces from Kenya, Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Associations, including DMG, Amentum, Aspen, and Gardaworld, gathered for a reminder service at the main food center in Pétion-Ville to nomine.

Its remains were transported to the Dominican Republic for the storage while plans for his repatriation in Kenya were made.

How did Nzuve die in Haiti?

The tragic accident happened on Sunday, August 31, along the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville road in Perlerin 9.

Nzuve was part of a rescue operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles while one of them was involved in a fatal accident.

He was rushed to Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville, where he was declared dead.

The MSS also expressed his gratitude to the first respondents, including the Forces Armées D’Haïti (Fad’h), the National Police of Haiti (PNH), the local residents, and their fellow officers, in their immediate response to the rescue and treating the injured.

A spokesman for the National Police Service (NPS), Muchiri Nyaga, initially confirmed that the Nzuve family had been informed of his death.

Who was the first Kenyan officer to be killed?

Kenya has been part of the MSS delegation in Haiti since 2024, which brings together many countries to help restore security and stability in the region.

The first injuries among Kenyan police officers sent to Haiti were confirmed after intense confrontation of gunfire and armed gangs.
