The mourners were gathered in the village of Imanda in the Manda Shivanga ward, the Malava parliament, on Thursday, August 28, to bury the former head teacher of the Bungoma High School Enock Andanje.

The late Andanje, who stopped teaching and joined politics, was among those watching the Malava parliamentary seat left open after the death of MP Malulu Injendi.

It is said that he wanted to be appointed through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The funeral, however, changed from mourning to politics when Deputy Democratic Party (DCP) leader Cleophas Malala climbed onto the platform.

“And Wetang’ula you are here, you are the head of Parliament. They say corruption is widespread in your parliament. I want to say in your face. You must be responsible. You are the head of our legislative body. You must be responsible,” Malala announced, giving much excitement from the mourners.

Tensions escalated when deputy governor of Kakamega Ayub Savula tried to cut Malala.

Malala, however, stood firm, accusing Savula of trying to silence her.

Shortly thereafter, his microphone was turned off. Without frustration, he surprised the mourners by delivering his own microphone, linked to the public address system.

“Savula leave the issue of time, I speak very important things, calm down, I’m home and you don’t have to be rushed. Now why do you stop the microphone, I am not a joke. I had expected this and planned,” Malala said as her words were received with great joy.
