Although this situation is very rare, it is estimated that one in several millions of newborns, is still a real but important number of people in the world.

“I couldn’t understand what made me different when I was growing up. I just knew I had to hide that fact,” Rodz narrated.

He added that doctors told his parents to expect and they tried to enable him to live a normal life.

But nothing can prepare you for how society treats you differently – childhood and adolescence are full of unique and painful challenges.

The school was hard, but the dressing rooms were worse. Rodz says he learned to be “a professional, emotional, and social hiding.”

He avoided close and romantic relationships for fear that his truth would lead to rejection.

However, through years of psychological therapy, medical counseling, and communication with other people living in a similar situation, Rodz has been able to find peace.

“This situation does not explain who I am,“He said.

“I have spent years learning about my body health, emotional, and psychological. I have learned to accept my body the way you are, not how society says you should be.”

Rodz says the decision to speak clearly was not to seek compassion or fame, but for the sake of truth, healing, and helping others not feel lonely.

He emphasized that he chose to talk to give other people the courage to be themselves, regardless of their differences.

“We are more than our bodies. We are the stories we decide to tell,” He concluded.

Over the years, many cultural communities in Kenya have viewed intersex people as cursed objects or have unusual nature, which has caused many of them to hide or not to emerge in fear of stigma.

As a result, their actual numbers are unknown, since many of them have been not providing accurate information about their identity, fearing for the judgment of the community.

The process of the new law now brings them to the national map, giving them the opportunity to have the same rights like all other people.
