President William Ruto has honored his promise to reward each Harambee Stars player with Ksh1 million following their 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed confirmed on Monday, August 4, that the funds had already been disbursed to the team. The payout also covered the technical bench.
“President William Ruto has fulfilled his commitment to pay KSh1 million each to all 27 Harambee Stars players and 15 members of the technical bench, a total of KSh42 million, following the national team’s 1-0 win over the DRC on Sunday,” Mohamed announced.
“The Sports ministry disbursed the funds, and a similar reward awaits the team after Thursday’s game against Angola.”
Harambee Stars opened their CHAN 2024 campaign on a high note, battling to a hard-earned 1-0 win against DR Congo in front of a packed crowd at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday evening, August 3, 2025.
The President confirmed the cash bonus during a surprise locker room visit after the match, where he praised the team’s performance and discipline. In high spirits, Ruto instructed Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed to pick up the funds on behalf of the squad.

“Na si sasa kila mtu ako na milioni moja,” Ruto told the jubilant players. “Kesho asubuhi, Hussein, nipitie pale State House uchukue mali ya hawa vijana.”
Ruto also took a moment to single out midfielder Austin Odhiambo, who scored the match-winning goal in the first half.
“You did very well,” the President said. “Thank you Bwana Austin kwa kutupea bao la kipekee.”
The win was a good start for the national team, and the presidential reward is seen as a morale booster for the team before their next games.
