Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy is sad ahead of Kenya’s second match in the Chan 2024 match against Angola, scheduled for Thursday, August 7.

McCarthy won his second victory as Harambee Stars trainer on weekends, with a 1-0 victory over DR Congo on the field Kasarani.

The South African player, who is sad to lose his former player, is determined to secure a second victory in CHAN 2024, a joint tournament with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The former Manchester United coach took over the Harambee Stars title in March and has managed five matches so far.

In March, Kenya left a short draw with Gambia in the World Cup qualifier before defeating Gabon at Nyayo Stadium a few days later.

In June, Kenya played two international friendly matches against Chad in Morocco, one draw and the other. The victory marked McCarthy’s first victory as a Kenyan trainer.

On Sunday, August 3, Kenya secured a 1-0 victory over DR Congo, being their first victory in CHAN 2024. They now hope to move forward in the tournament.

Who does Benni McCarthy mourning?

On Tuesday, Benni McCarthy joined his former coach, Jose Mourinho, along with Deco and Pepe, in honor of Jorge Costa, who passed away after suffering a heart attack.

McCarthy won the Champions League 2004 title with Costa, Deco and Mourinho. The 53 -year -old died at the Porto training center.

“My condolences to the whole family of Jorge Nuno Costa. Rest in peace my dear Captain Bug,” McCarthy wrote on Instagram.

Costa and McCarthy participated in the stadium 52 times with a Porto jersey, winning the 2004 Portuguese title.

“I know what you would say now if you could ‘stop crying, tomorrow you have a match and your boys need you to be ready and strong'”, Mourinho wrote on Instagram. “I promise you Bicho, I will do. RIP 🙏 Because your inheritance remains with us.

Who was Jorge Costa?

Porto reported on their website mourning the death of Costa, who served as their football director.

The 53 -year -old stayed in Porto for more than a decade, winning 24 titles, including the 2004 Champions League and eight Premier League titles. He also had a short time in the Premier League with Charlton Athletic in the early 2000s.

He retired from football in 2006 and changed other roles within the game before returning to Porto. He is the third former Porto player to leave the world within a month, following the deaths of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.
