Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) allied politician and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has revealed plans for a grand reception for its party leaders Rigathi Gachagua, upon his return from his two-month-long tour of the United States.

Speaking during a rally in Limuru on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the senator said the party will march to the airport upon his return to the country.

“We promise to come back here again. We will come with all other leaders and Riggy too. Na Riggy G akifika lazima tuende mpaka hio airport ndio tumulete apa Kenya,” the senator said.

Translated to: When Gachagua arrives, we must go to the airport and welcome him home.”

During the event, Gachagua continued with his recent trend of addressing the crowd via a phone, as he did during the party’s Sunday rally at Subukia in Nakuru County.

Gachagua’s tour of the United States kicked off on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Speaking at a past function in Nyahururu, the former DP stated that his decision to tour America was inspired by the need to trace Kenyans who left for the U.S. many years ago, became wealthy, but have remained detached from their roots.

“And that is why I am going to America for two months — to search for our people who vanished there. They went there for many years and have become very wealthy, but here we are struggling. I have gone to look for those people in places like Texas and urge them to return and support us and help us. So we can love each other,” he revealed on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

His tour began on a politically charged note after he held a press conference in Nairobi, claiming that individuals close to President William Ruto had tried to block his departure and threatened to arrest him at the airport.

Rising political temperatures

Even after his departure, little has been done to subside the political temperatures, with his DCP entourage led by deputy leader Cleophas Malala taking up the baton and continuing political rallies across the country.

Meanwhile, the DCP leader’s trip continues to elicit mixed responses across the country. Government-allied politicians vehemently criticised the ex DP for what they have lamented as exporting bad manners and tribalism abroad following Gachagua’s explosive revelations while on his tour.

Gachagua has so far toured Boston and Seattle, with further trips to Texas set to be conducted.
