How many shillings was the shillings?

“A friend of mine, whom I was selling for her, paid my bail after staying at the police station for two days. The bail was ten thousand shillings (Ksh 10,000). He was my last hope, I had no other family or friend.

He asked me if I could do any work as long as it was not involved in killing people, I told him I was ready. He seemed worried if I was really ready, but I told him I was completely ready. He directed me to him tomorrow, ” Hadija said.

The next day, Hadija got ready and went to her friend’s house. When he arrived, he found his friend arranging for beauty materials. He had two bags.

“He told me we were going to meet his friend, then we started work. He gave me one bag, we started the journey,” Hadija remembered.

“We went into the same room, and there were three bodies on the beds. My friend stretched out his hand and told me that was our job.

He told me, ‘When you look at these corpses, don’t look like a corpse, look at it as your problems: how your family suffers, how you don’t have food, your mother is sick, and the rent is over.’ “

I felt I couldn’t do the job, but I didn’t have any other way. For every body I worked for, I was paid KSh 5,000. That day I made two bodies, and got KSh 10,000. I gave KSh 5,000 as part of paying the bond he had set for me. He told me to continue paying the remaining amount later, ” Hadija narrated.
