Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has called on Kenya’s Gen Z to remain firm in their pursuit of justice and reform, assuring them that the lives lost during recent protests will not be in vain.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on Sunday, 13 July 2025, Omondi reflected on the burial of slain protester Boniface Kariuki, which took place a day earlier in Murang’a County.

He revealed that he stayed behind after the requiem mass to pray and seek God’s guidance for the movement and the country at large.

“I stayed behind to speak with God,” Omondi wrote. “I mentioned Rex, Eric Shiani, Kennedy Onyango, Albert Ojwang, Boniface Kariuki and the hundreds that we have lost. I talked to God about tomorrow, that it may be better and brighter than today.”

His emotional post comes in the wake of a series of anti-government protests that have swept across the country since late June, driven largely by Gen Z youth.

The demonstrations, initially sparked by the death of slain teacher Albert Ojwang, have since evolved into broader calls for accountability, better governance, and an end to police brutality.

Stand despite setbacks

Several young protesters have been killed or abducted during the unrest, sparking national and international outrage.

Omondi, who has emerged as one of the most vocal supporters of the Gen Z-led movement, urged the youth to stand strong despite the setbacks.

“To the Gen Zs, keep your heads high. Keep fighting. God is on our side, and if He is for us, who can be against us?” he wrote, adding that a “new Kenya” was on the horizon and that every drop of blood spilt would not be forgotten.

Omondi’s message resonated widely across social media, where he continues to use his platform to amplify youth voices and demand justice.

“This pain will not last forever,” he concluded. “Joy will come in the morning. And victory will be ours.”
