What did Moses Kuria say about the Gen Z protests?
According to a national police service report, at least 11 people were killed across the country.
However, in his Twitter post on Tuesday, July 8, Kuria claimed that the dead were criminals and not Gen Z.
Kuria congratulated the Minister of Internal Security Kipchumba Murkomen By ensuring that only criminals were killed during the protest.
“No Gen Z died today. They are just criminal looters. Good job @kipmurkomen. Make sure Gen Z zero and many deaths to criminals,” Kuria said.

However, the Kuria statement was strongly rejected by many Kenyans who claimed that the police had no authority to shoot to kill.
According to the Kenyans, the police have the authority to arrest lawmakers, not to destroy them.

Were Kenyan police officers given permission to shoot?
The Kuria statement comes just days after CS Murkomen ordered the police to use the death force against anyone approaching or threatening the police.
The internal security minister issued the order on Thursday, June 26, a day after a June 25 national protest that celebrated the 2024 protest and witnessed several stations attacked.
However, Murkomen’s orders sparked strong opposition from Kenyans, including leaders like Raila Odinga of ODM.
Raila said the minister was mistaken for publicly supporting police after killing innocent protesters.
