Embu County Woman Representative Pamela Njoki has come out to dispel widespread claims that a tragic road accident that occurred near Kavingaci on Sunday, July 6, 2025, after President William Ruto’s visit, was caused by a vehicle in the Head of State’s convoy.

Speaking shortly after the incident, the lawmaker confirmed that the car involved in the accident belonged to her and not to the presidential motorcade, as had been widely speculated online.

“My name is Double N, Embu County Woman Representative, and I want to clarify that the accident which occurred today following the presidential function near Kigari Teachers College involved my vehicle and another car. There has been misleading speculation suggesting that the president’s vehicle was involved in the accident, which is entirely untrue,” she said.

She added that she had personally informed President Ruto about the incident and reassured the public that she was unharmed and in good condition.

“I have already reported the matter, and I have informed the president personally that my vehicle was the one involved. I am completely safe, so the public should not be concerned about my condition. I did not sustain any injuries. It is only my car that was damaged, and the matter is currently being handled,” she said.

Recorded a statement

According to the woman representative, she was at Embu Police Station recording a statement at the time of speaking, and confirmed that the vehicle which rear-ended hers belonged to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) chairman, Kariuki Roho Safi, who also served as the former Deputy Governor of Embu County.

“We are recording statements here at Embu Police Station, and I wish to confirm that the car which struck mine from behind belongs to the NSSF chairman, Kariuki Roho Safi, who is the former deputy governor of this county. It had nothing to do with the president’s vehicles,” she clarified.

She also expressed her heartfelt condolences to a separate family said to have been affected by the accident.

While she could not independently confirm the reports, she noted that a motorbike carrying multiple passengers was involved and that there were unconfirmed reports of fatalities.

“Besides the incident involving my vehicle, there was a motorbike that was also affected, and I have heard rumours—although I do not have official confirmation—that some lives may have been lost at the scene. If that turns out to be the case, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” she said.
