Armed goons disrupt press conference at KHRC

Armed individuals stormed a press conference held at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) offices in Nairobi, violently disrupting proceedings and scattering attendees in chaos.

In a statement shared by the Women’s Collective Kenya via its official X account shortly after the attack on Sunday, July 6, 2025, disclosed that the goons launched an attack on women who were holding a presser ahead of the Saba Saba protest.

“URGENT ALERT: Armed goons have attacked the offices of the Kenya Human Rights Commission @thekhrc, where a press conference was due to be held this afternoon by Kenyan mothers on the eve of Saba Saba,” Women’s Collective Kenya said.

Kenyan mothers called for a press conference to demand an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.

Change of venue

The attack comes after the human rights organisation announced a change of venue for the press conference on the upcoming Saba Saba protests.

In a statement shared on the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, the human rights body said that the press set for Sunday, July 6, 2025, will now be held at the organisation’s offices along Amboseli Road, off Gitanga Road.

The media briefing was initially set to happen at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi.

“NOTE: The venue has been changed from All Saints’ Cathedral to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), 849 Amboseli Road, Off Gitanga Road,” the notice read.

KHRC’s demands

During the presser, the commission is expected to demand an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings of Kenyans who will be taking to the streets on Monday, July 7, 2025, for Saba Saba protests.

“Ahead of the Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, 2025, Kenyan mothers are demanding an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings of their children for taking to the streets,” KHRC stated.
