Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire has led a delegation of leaders in receiving President William Ruto in Meru County for the 35th Diocesan Anniversary Celebrations and fundraising at St Mark’s Teachers’ Training College, Kigari.

The president touched down at the airstrip for the function and was warmly received by the county boss, clad in a resplendent blue dress and black outfit.

The governor was joined by Public Service CS Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku, Runyenjes MP Eric Gathemba, and other national & local leaders.

Ruto’s visit to the region comes two days after he hosted a delegation from the county on July 4, 2025, at State House.

Taking her to her X page after the meeting, Mbarire expressed her gratitude to the president for his assurance and commitment to fast-tracking priority projects within the region.

She cited the tarmacking of roads and the affordable housing projects among the developmental projects that would have a lasting impact on the county.

“As leaders, we remain committed to advancing the well-being and development of our citizens and county. In pursuit of this goal, we have held a consultative meeting with His Excellency William Samoei Ruto the President of the Republic of Kenya, alongside fellow leaders from various sectors of responsibility. The meeting’s agenda focused on accelerating key development priorities in agriculture, healthcare, trade, and infrastructure pillars crucial to economic growth and improved livelihoods,” she stated.

The governor’s meeting followed after she had conspicuously come under scrutiny after she expressed frustration with senior Kenya Kwanza government officials, whom she accused of undermining her leadership.

In a fiery speech on June 1, 2025, Mbarire voiced deep discontent over clandestine political manoeuvres, stating that certain individuals within the government she supports had begun plotting against her.

Mbarire specifically criticised officers from Nairobi ’for holding secret night meetings in Embu to strategise the county’s political direction without involving her or other elected leaders.

She accused them of disrespect, arguing that they believed they understood Embu politics better than local leaders.

The tirade prompted an invitation from Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who hosted the governor three days later in his Karen office on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, alongside Embu County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Muriithi.
