Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has come out to laugh at football star McDonald Mariga after he revealed that he does not have a wife.
While addressing mourners during the burial of their mother in Soyi on Saturday, July 5, Musalia expressed surprise upon learning that Mariga is still single, a revelation that left the mourners in laughter.

He went on to remind Mariga that First Lady Rachel Ruto is from Soy, and his own wife, the spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, is also from Soy. Musalia then challenged Mariga to consider marrying from the same place so that in the future, when it is said, “The president is Musalia and Mariga,” they would share more than politics.
“Mariga mimi sikujua kwamba uko hivo, lakini wacha nikuambie siri: first lady anatoka Soyi; ukiruka barabara, Mrs Musalia anatoka huko. Sasa tafuta tu, alafu tuwe tunasema ‘first lady’ au ‘Prime CS’, alafu Mariga wote ni watu wa Soy,” Musalia said.
Musalia was not the only one who took a swipe at Mariga for his bachelor status. Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also mocked Mariga, urging him to follow in the footsteps of his younger brother, former Tottenham Hotspur player Victor Wanyama, who is married, and in doing so, set the stage for his younger siblings.
“Mariga, wewe ni ndugu yetu, na nimeona ndugu yako mwenye ako na mke wake hapa, na hawa wengine bado ni wadogo. Fungua njia ya kuoa ndio hawa wengine wafuate; sasa wewe, mungu amekujalia, uko na nyumba, uko na pesa ya kukula, sasa kazi kidogo ya kuleta mtu akuje akae hapa ndio umeshindwa?” Sudi asked.
During the funeral, Mariga confirmed that he is in a relationship and that wedding plans are underway. He assured those present that preparations are in progress and a celebration will be happening soon.
Mariga’s mum’s death
Mildred Wanyama, the mother of former Kenyan footballer McDonald Mariga, passed away on June 25, 2025, after a long battle with illness.

She died at the age of 60 in a Nairobi hospital. Her funeral was held on July 5, 2025, in Soy, Uasin Gishu County, and was attended by thousands, including prominent figures such as Sudi and Kitale Diocese Bishop Henry Juma Odonya.
A memorial mass was held on July 2, 2025, at the Church of God in South B, Nairobi. Mildred was celebrated as a strong, God-fearing woman who raised her children — including Mariga and his siblings — as a single mother after separating from their father, Noah Wanyama.
