Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered a firearm from a person of interest linked to a series of robberies in the coastal region.
DCI, in a statement shared via their official X account on the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, stated that their officers based in Likoni had recovered the firearm believed to have been used to terrorise residents in the coastal region through violent robberies.
According to DCI, a 27-year-old man from whose house the firearm was found was arrested.
“DCI detectives based in Likoni have recovered a firearm believed to have been used to terrorize residents in the coastal region through violent robberies, arresting a 27-year-old man from whose house it was found,” the DCI stated.
The anti-crime agency went ahead to narrate how the person of interest who has been identified as Paul Odhiambo Magoya was apprehended.

His arrest, the DCI said, came when police raided his room at Prestige Guest House, recovering a CZ pistol, which was found concealed under his bed.
The firearm has since been submitted for ballistic examination at the National Forensic Laboratory.
“Paul Odhiambo Magoya was arrested in a sting operation within Mariakani when police raided his room at Prestige Guest House. The firearm, a CZ pistol, which was found concealed at his bed, has been submitted for ballistic examination at the National Forensic Laboratory,” the statement read.

Maweche incident
This comes shortly after police in Mombasa arrested a person of interest believed to be behind a string of robberies in Likoni Sub-County.
In a statement on X on Saturday, July 5, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the person of interest was apprehended on Thursday, July 4, 2025, following a successful operation by officers from Vijiweni Police Station.
According to NPS, the arrest was made after officers acted on a tip-off from members of the public.
