Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has tipped President William Ruto to win the upcoming 2027 elections.

Speaking at the burial of Mama Mildred Wanyama in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, July 5, 2025, the former ANC leader could not help but join the dominant theme of politics by predicting Ruto’s victory.

Mudavadi, whose Amani National Congress (ANC) outfit folded to join Ruto’s ruling party, referenced his foresight in picking the winning side in the run-up to the 2022 elections.

He has termed his declaration as the accurate prediction of how the coming election will go.

Through the ballot

“I rose up when Ruto was vying, and we went to Bomas, planned the earthquake, and showed our people the way. When you did not expect it, and people were fearful and thought Ruto never knew where he was heading, I and a few others stood by Ruto, saying the country had shifted. Did he win or not?” he posed.

“I want to tell you again, in 2027 William Ruto will win his second term. I am saying it here. Every time you say, Give us direction, I gave the direction before the elections of 2022, and others thought I was giving the wrong direction. I was right, and others were wrong. Today, I’m reminding you here, and mark my words, Ruto will succeed through the ballot for his second term. Listen to the message I’m giving you: it’s going to happen,” he stated.

Mudavadi’s sentiments come after Homa Bay Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma also stated that a coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto will win the 2027 general elections.

Kaluma’s prediction

In a statement on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, Kaluma premised his assertions on the data from the  2022 Independent  Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of the number of registered voters by region in the country.

“Coalition to be led by Raila Odinga and William Ruto set for landslide win in 2027,” Kaluma stated.

Kaluma’s prediction came weeks after a survey by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) revealed that more than half of Kenyans do not support the broad-based government (BBG) formed by President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

TIFA Survey of May 7

According to a survey released on May 7, 2025, 54 per cent of Kenyans oppose the broad-based government.

Among all respondents, only about one-fifth (22 per cent) expressed support for the BBG.

It is unclear whether the remaining 22 per cent, who declined to express an opinion, did so because they have mixed feelings about the BBG or hold a negative view but were uncomfortable expressing it.

The survey was conducted between May 2 and May 6, 2025, among 2,024 respondents across nine regions: Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt. Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western.
