Renowned city preacher Pastor T Mwangi has opened up about a past incident where he was approached by an individual who attempted to lure him into a money laundering scheme using his church.
Speaking on a popular financial podcast aired on July 4, Pastor T recounted how someone contacted him with a proposal to launder money through his church.
The plan involved mixing illicit funds with church offerings and then splitting the proceeds between the two parties.
The individual behind the scheme claimed the money involved was substantial and promised that the entire operation would be conducted discreetly without raising suspicion.
“There was a time someone called me and told me, ‘I see you have a church project; we can wash money,’ and the kind of money this person was telling me we were going to make was good money,” Pastor T said.
According to Pastor T, the person assured him that there would be no risks and that security would be guaranteed. Despite the tempting offer, he firmly rejected the idea.
“And the person said everything was covered by security; nobody would know. Mix it with the offering, give us our cut, and you get your cut,” he stated.
He went on to explain that having been in ministry for years, he is committed to building a legacy of integrity. His goal, he said, is to leave behind clean and honest wealth for his children, no matter how modest, because it carries true blessing.
“I want to hand over wealth and inheritance to my children that is legit and genuine and something that I know will bring blessings to them, no matter how small it may be,” he added.
Pastor T also shared insights into the financial side of ministry, noting that preachers often receive unexpected gifts and honorariums. He revealed that the highest amount he has ever received as an honorarium was Ksh1.8 million.
“One thing about being a pastor: you get random money. I can even walk outside here, and somebody says, ‘Pastor, let me buy you lunch,’ and then boom, Ksh3000. The largest honorarium I have ever received was Ksh1,800,000,” he concluded.

Pastor T Mwangi, whose full name is Anthony Kahura Mwangi, is a Kenyan televangelist, gospel minister, and former gospel rapper known for his dynamic preaching and focus on youth mentorship.
He serves as the senior pastor of Life Church International in Limuru, Kiambu County, and is the founder of the Gathering of Champions, an interdenominational fellowship based in Nairobi.
