Embakasi East member of parliament Paul Ongili, famously known as Babu Owino, has challenged the police following the brutal murder of Albert Ojwang while at the Central Police Station.
Speaking on Friday, July 4, 2025, during the burial of the slain teacher, Babu implored the security agencies to protect the citizens instead of killing them.
Moreover, the outspoken legislator joined the family in demanding justice, insisting that his burial should not be followed by silence.
“There’s only one clarion call for justice,” he said. “The work of police should not be to kill but to protect the citizens,” he asserted.
“Politicians have led us down for their own greed. We appeal to President William Ruto to tame officers who are orchestrating extrajudicial judicial killings and abductions,” he added.

Ojwang’s body arrived on Thursday, July 3, 2025, under chaotic scenes at the family’s Kokwanyo home, where a standoff erupted involving students from the nearby Mawego Technical College.
The students intercepted the hearse while it was en route to the family home and diverted it to Mawego Police Station—where Ojwang had been briefly held following his arrest before his death in police custody. Upon arrival, they torched the police station, causing extensive damage and bringing operations to a standstill.
It took officers from Kendu Bay Police Station to restore calm at the facility in Karachuonyo Constituency, marching nearly three kilometers with the coffin.
Mother’s Pain
Speaking during Ojwang’s requiem mass on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Eucabeth, Ojwang’s mother, recounted the last interaction she had with her son before he was taken into custody.
“Albert, my son, I’m sorry. You were taken from my hands before you even ate the food I had given you; you hadn’t even started on your ugali.
“I apologise for letting you go while you were still hungry. You were shaking when they came for you, but you told me you hadn’t done anything,” she said.
Ojwang’s wife, Nevnina Onyango, also gave an emotional tribute, recalling their final conversation and the heavy toll the tragedy has taken on her family.
