Digital content creator and influencer Diana Marua has opened up about a terrifying skincare ordeal that nearly sent her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
In a video shared on her YouTube channel on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Diana recalled battling hormonal acne and being trolled online.
She went on to explain that amid the trolling, a netizen messaged her on Instagram offering an acne remedy. In her desperation, Diana invited him over so she could learn more about the skincare products he was promoting.
“Being a public figure, and people were calling me names and telling me I’m ugly, somebody sent me a DM, akaniambia, ‘Seeing the bullying that is happening online, I have something that can help you with your breakouts. I was desperate, and then you have friends; you ask them what they are applying on their face, and they lie that they just use normal products,” Diana revealed.
“I was desperate, and I invited this guy to my house. He gave me the products and told me that within two weeks, I would have a clear face.”
The influencer added that within five days of using the products, she noticed visible changes, observing that the more she applied, the clearer and smoother her face became.
“I started using those products, and on day five of using them, my face cleared up, and the more I used them, the clearer and smoother my face got, but I only had black spots. I was told to apply twice a day, but I used to apply thrice because I wanted the process to speed up,” she added.

Skin‑care product reaction
The mother of four further explained that her face began swelling due to an allergic reaction to the skincare products she was using.
Diana said the swelling persisted, and she was rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival, the doctor asked if she had any allergies. She revealed she was allergic to sulphur.
“I remember it was Father’s Day. I had prepared a set-up for Bahati’s surprise, then tukiendelea, I started feeling that I was not okay after the shot. I went and checked myself in the mirror and noticed my face was swelling, and then I told Bahati I was not feeling okay,” she explained.
“We slept, woke up in the morning, my face was swollen, my eyes were smaller, so we went to Lancent and by the time we reached there, I started having an allergic reaction and the doctor looked at me and asked what I had applied on my face and asked if I was allergic to anything. I told him I am allergic to sulphur.”
ICU scare
She said that the doctor called another specialist, who examined her and declared it an ICU-level case.
They asked whether she was having any difficulty breathing, and the first treatment they administered was an injection of Piriton. After some time, she noted, the swelling began to subside.

The ‘Hatutaachana’ hitmaker added that she was later referred to a dermatologist, where she received treatment
“So the doctor called another doctor, and the lady came. She looked at me and said It’s an ICU case,’ and started asking if I was finding it difficult to breathe, and the first thing they did was to inject me with Piriton. After some time, the swelling started subsiding,” she said.
“Then I was referred to another hospital to a dermatologist, and I was given medication, went back home and started the healing process and started getting better.”
Diana added that even after treatment and healing, she was still left with scars on her face.
“But it left me with scars up to date, I am still suffering from those scars,” she added.
