The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has clarified that the missing title deed recently reported has nothing to do with its South C headquarters or the disputed land along Dennis Pritt Road.
On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, KNEC stated, “This title is not for KNEC headquarters in South C nor for the Dennis Pritt land. It is an old case for a piece of land in Kileleshwa.”
The Council also added that recovery efforts are ongoing and that it is cooperating with the Ministry of Lands closely.
According to the ministry, a replacement title cannot be given until all the recovery channels have been exhausted to their full extent, such as issuing a gazette notice as part of it.
“The Ministry of Lands advised they cannot replace the title without exhausting all avenues of search and recovery,” the Council said.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued the clarification following the publication of a public notice in the MyGov gazette of July 1, 2025, in which it invited the public to help recover a lost title deed under Land Reference Number 209/6900. The property, which is of crucial significance for the management of national examinations, has been of concern to the education and public services sectors because it was lost.
KNEC has initiated an in-house investigation and is taking all measures to ensure that its services are not inconvenienced.
If the document is not retrieved, KNEC intends to explore all avenues of law to redress the loss.
By engaging the public in the process, the Council is showing a transparent and responsible manner of dealing with the issue, particularly at a time when public pressure regarding the management of public land is mounting across the country.
