Former Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has fired a warning to politicians who are splashing out money to woo voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP argued that politicians should not be spending more than what they used in the previous election cycle.
According to Kega, any politician who is currently spending more than what he used in the last electioneering period should be ready to lose their seats very early in the morning.
He argued that whoever doubts his remarks should go and ask him in person.
“If you are spending more money now than you used in the previous election, just know you are going home mapema. Ask me!” he warned.

Kega’s political journey
Kega first showed interest in the Kieni parliamentary seat in the 2002 general election.
He lost the parliamentary seat twice in 2002 and 2007 before his ultimate win in 2013. He was the Kieni MP from 2013 to 2022.
Kanini Kega was among the members of parliament from central Kenya who strongly supported former President Uhuru Kenyatta and was actively a part of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
Kega loses MP seat
He lost the Kieni parliamentary seat to Njoroge Wainaina of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) during the 2022 General Elections.
In November 2022, he was elected to represent Kenya at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
However, he blamed Azimio leader Raila Odinga for his Kieni MP seat loss. Kega, in July 2023, argued that he supported Raila by rallying people from Mt Kenya, but they failed.
The remarks came days after he had shared a cryptic message directed at the Mt Kenya electorate after it emerged that he was unable to defend his seat.
In a message shared on his social media pages, Kega indicated that the region had refused to support him and former president Uhuru Kenyatta, but it was only a matter of time before they realised what the then-head of state wanted for them.
