Margaret Karungaru said Ruto and his government are dependent on widows.

Karungaru’s political direction goes against the position of many in the Mount Kenya region, suggesting the possibility of a conflict between him and Gachagua.

Her late husband, Nderitu Gachagua, was the first governor of Nyeri between 2013 and 2017.

Nderitu died while still in power, just a few months before the 2017 General Election.
